Friday: Stuck In Texas

Friday we left Oklahoma early in the morning. After only about two hours, we were in Texas and the moving van suddenly lost power, a whole bunch of check engine type lights went on, and the van went into "limp mode" and wouldn't go over about 40mph. So we pulled over and called Budget. We sat on the side of the road for over two hours waiting on hold and waiting for Budget to find a mechanic who figure out what was wrong. Finally they told us to drive to the Hart Chevrolet Dealership in Dalhart, TX, where we waited until 6pm for Budget to make a decision. (It must be said here that people at the dealership were wonderful to us! We were stuck there for HOURS and they took GREAT care of us!) Budget ended up towing to van to Amarillo, TX where we stayed the night. The next morning they transferred all of our stuff into another van and we were on our way again by early afternoon (luckily we didn't have to do any of the unpacking, moving, or repacking of the new van!).

It was irritating, but Budget took pretty good care of us. And we had a lot of fun while we waiting on the side of the road for a decision. We found some fun train junk and had an impromptu photo shoot.
Of course, this wasn't the end of our journey. Nor was it the end of our troubles. Rest assured we did make it here though! I'll tell you all about our adventure from today (Sunday) when I've got a little more time in the next day or so. It's a good story and I've even got the sunburn to prove it!

Kansas and Oklahoma

I'm pretty sure I haven't updated about our M&M situation. The reason why is because we don't know exactly what we're doing yet. We have packed up our house in Ames and we'll be spending the summer with our families in AZ (best time to be there, right?). Everything is going into storage and these next couple of months will be spent deciding what to do next. It's a stressful situation, but for now we're driving to AZ and I'm enjoying to trip.

We left Wednesday evening and made it to Kansas City before we stopped. Yesterday we drove through Kansas and most of Oklahoma. Here are some pictures of the landscape we enjoyed on the way.

Today has been a whole other story. It's been a mix of fun and terrible. Tune in tomorrow for the rest of the story!

30 Years...

...this guy has been on the earth. We had a discussion last night about why we married each other. Sometimes I forget why I married him. Yeah, he gets on my nerves and I get frustrated, but he truly was the best of any guy I knew. He made me feel better than all the others, he was smarter, more faithful, more well spoken, and because I married him, my life is better than it would have been. I love you so much! Happy 30th birthday! (And Babe, it's not so bad being 30! hehe!)

I'm In Love...

Isn't it pretty?
It can even be two-tiered and footed if I so desire!
(I made it myself!)
(In fact, I made two!)

A Quintessential Iowa Morning (For Me)

I went up to Gilbert (the little town north of Ames) this morning and visited my favorite store here in Iowa, JB Knacker. I try not to go very often because I know I'll spend too much money whenever I go, but this morning was the annual Gilbert garage sale Saturday, so I had to! I seriously love that store and I love the owner too! Brenda recognizes me every time I come in and I've only been in a handful of times, she great to talk to, and she's got some seriously great taste in antique and vintage stuff. I am really really going to miss JB Knacker when we leave.

I wasn't really planning on stopping at any of the garage sales - we got a late start that morning and I figured all the good stuff would already be gone, but they called to me and I just couldn't resist... So I got these:
I love them! They're so pretty! Anyhow, after that, the boys and I did my #2 favorite thing to to on Saturdays during the summer in Ames:
We got hamburgers from the Brat Shack in front of Cub Foods. This place honestly has the second best burgers in all of Ames (the very best hamburger is at The Cafe, in case you were wondering). And the people who run this thing are so great too!

So I'm trying to fit in as many Iowa things I can before we leave - well, in case we leave. Nothing is 100% decided yet.
