Elijah Update

If your not sick of hearing about or seeing our little guy yet, then after this, you might be....  Or after the pictures and post I'm sure to do once we actually get home.  Anyway, he's out of the NICU and staying with us in my room!  They'll discharge him tomorrow after one more night of observation.  They want to make sure he's eating well and that his circumcision is doing well.  He's such a pleasant baby though.  He hardly cries at all, even when he wakes up hungry - that just might be because he's all tuckered out today from his little circ surgery this morning though.  I'll enjoy it however long I can!

I like this picture - It looks like he's got a big smile.

I think my mom has a picture like this with each of her grandkids.  Precious!

Elijah and his papa.

Israel and his baby brother.  He was really excited to get to hold little Elijah, but as soon as they had their picture taken and Israel gave his baby brother a kiss, he was done.  How sweet!

September 23rd

More pictures from Elijah's birth...

My huge belly the morning Elijah was born.  We had to be at the hospital at 6am for the induction.  It was still dark outside!

All done!  It's so crazy how quickly you begin to feel normal again after the baby is born...  Those of you who have given birth know what I mean, those you who haven't, you'll just have to trust me...  It's seriously crazy - crazy wonderful!

A little better picture of Elijah...  It turned out a little bright - I think my dad has a couple of good pictures on his camera, I'll get those tomorrow.

The whole family, as of Tuesday at 4:26pm.  Israel was pretty excited to see his new baby brother.  He's very good about telling people that "baby brother is sick."  He loves to come to the "hos-pee-tall" to see Mama and baby brother...  and to ride the elevator.

The flowers that my sister, Chantal, had sent up from the gift shop.  She's so thoughtful!

Anyway, so there are some more pictures from Elijah's birth.  As of this evening, he's doing really well and as long as everything stays the same, he'll be coming home on Monday and possibly even tomorrow night.  Thank you so much for your well wishes and prayers, I've felt them helping to keep me sane!  We love you all!

Introducing...

This is a pretty bad picture, but I haven't got the camera with me to put a good picture up (this one is from my phone).  I'll do it later though, I promise!  Anyway, here he is!!  Introducing: Elijah Thomas, born Tuesday at 4:26pm.  Labor and delivery went really well...  It's since then that we've had problems.  Elijah is still in the hospital, the night he was born, his respiratory rate went too high and his white blood count went too high also, so they put him the NICU to watch him.  Because his resp rate was so high his pulse oxygen went down too low, so they had to put him on oxygen.  He hasn't been able to eat anything because they are afraid of him aspirating the fluids, so he has been on IV fluids.  A chest x-ray showed that he had some wet spots on his lungs, so they started him on antibiotics also.  They also did a blood culture - we're still waiting on those results - I guess they take 48 hours or more.  I'm not exactly sure of all the details - I rely on Randal for the specifics.  So, as of this morning, his respiratory rate has finally come down into normal range and his pulse-ox is staying high without the help of extra oxygen.  His blood tests have all come back normal, but now he has developed jaundice.  So, they have him under those special lights - at least until tomorrow.  We should be getting another chest x-ray today or tomorrow to see how his lungs look.  If there are still some wet spots, they'll have to treat him for pneumonia - a 7-10 day treatment - here in the hospital.  It's so strange, because our little Elijah looks so healthy.  He's not a little premie baby, and until this morning, he has had really good color.  He's a pretty mellow baby too.  I mean, he's had his moments, you can tell he wants to eat, but mostly he just sleeps or looks around.  I've been able to hold him and rock with him at least once every day - which is nice.  He just looks around and sucks on his pacifier.  Hopefully sometime today he'll get to nurse!  Hooray!

Other than all that, we're doing really well.  My parents are here, so that has a been a HUGE help!  The staff here at the hospital is so great.  I've even been able to stay here in a private room as a guest, even though I was discharged on Thursday.  When we have Israel here, the NICU nurse will call us and let us know if there are no other babies in the nursery so that Israel can go in and visit his baby brother.  Israel actually got to be there for the birth!  He did really well and even though he may not remember it later in life, it will be a cool story to be able to tell both of them.  Randal's mom also flew in Monday night, so she got be here for the birth.  She had to leave Wednesday though.

So, I will update again when we know more!  LOVE TO YOU ALL!

Get Sam Married

Gotta Love Him...

So, my younger brother is the only one of my 4 siblings that is not married...  And I guess it's time.  So, check it out:  Get Sam Married!

So if you or someone one you  know goes for the "Peter Priesthood"/class-clown type.  He's your man!  He's seriously so awesome!  He's great with all of his nieces and nephews, he's a hard worker, and he can cook and clean!  He's smart and will keep you laughing.  He is always trying to do what's right...  I've always kind of thought of him as the "Moroni" in our family.

So spread the word....  and let's GET SAM MARRIED!!!

This Made Me Happy Today...

So, I woke up this morning and started getting ready for church, and nothing fit, and I was feeling all huge and fat and bugly...  So, I thought to myself that I needed to get over it and make something pretty, so I painted my toenails and finger nails.  And yes, I did this all by myself and I am 8 1/2 months pregnant!  It wasn't easy OR painless and it's not perfect, in fact it's a pretty sloppy job, but let me tell you, all day long, whenever I would look at my toes, I FELT pretty!  And in case you're wondering, my fingernails are pink - HOT pink!

PS - Thanks to Andrea and Makenzie...  Andrea texted me the picture of Makenzie's zebra toes that I copied...  Her's are A LOT better though!

Living In Ames, IA - Part 2

So, all this beautiful weather has us opening our windows first thing in the morning.  This morning I heard the marching band practicing over at the high school and thought it would be fun to take Israel for a walk and listen to the band and maybe go over to there and watch them practice, as Ames High School is only a couple streets over.  Anyway, on our walk, as we turned the corner, there was the high school marching band, marching right in front of us!!  The whole entire band with the conductors and everything were out marching through the neighborhood!  It was great!  Israel loved it, so we followed them as the did a couple of more passes around the block and down a couple streets till they went back to the school.  As you can imagine, there were lot's of people coming out onto their front lawns to watch.  I don't think this is something that happens often, but you never know.  We enjoyed it though!  This picture is from my phone though, I didn't want to have to run back to the house to get my camera and possibly miss something, but as you can see, Israel enjoyed marching right behind them.

Living In Ames, IA

Just thought I would take a second and brag...  The temp right now (11:41am) is 61 degrees and the high is only supposed to get to 71.  It's a little cloudy, but still with those beautiful blue skies and there is just the faintest of breezes.  And best of all: It's NOT humid!  Ahhh....  I hope those of you in AZ are enjoying the 100+ degree weather!  LOVE YOU ALL!
