Ok, so we've been busy and that's why I haven't posted.  So here's my fourth of July post - a month later! (almost)
For Fourth of July our ward and the other Ames ward had a pancake breakfast that started at 7:30am!  We got there around 9.  Still lots of food left though.  Israel had a blast playing on the playground with all the other kids and Randal even took him on an adventure to walk down by the river.  They were hunting for "Iowa lions."

After the breakfast, we went downtown (Main Street) for the parade.  That was a lot of fun.  They threw candy to the kids and lot's the paraders handed out popsicles - my favorite!  We tagged along with another family from our ward so we would get to the good spots and have someone to hang out with and other kids for Israel to play with.  Deborah (the mom) was a lot of fun - they lived in AZ before Iowa and so we've been able to talk about restaraunts and other stuff we miss about AZ - like BULLET BARS!!  I was shocked that she knew what a Bullet Bar was.  Ahhh....  I miss you Shamrock Farms!

After the parade we came home and napped so that we could all be awake for fireworks.  Some people in the ward told us that the two wards kind of have a designated spot where everyone meets to watch the fireworks together.  The show was supposed to start at 10 and we got there around 9:30 or so.  It was already dark, but somehow we were able to find the spot.  So, we got to sit with more people we know and I didn't have to worry about who Israel was playing with.  Apparently though, people usually start showing up at the designated "Ames Wards Spot" around 8:30 and then they play games and stuff until it starts.  So, next year we'll probably come earlier and enjoy the festivities.  Overall though, it was a GREAT Fourth of July!!

Sound like so much fun! I didnt know bullet bars were unique to the west. Its awsome that everybody in the ward is close and had a meeting spot.
